First of all, 1 star is too much for this place. It is tiny, and ridiculously overpriced. It is located blocks away from a recycling factory so it always smells like rotting trash (should have been a warning on how my time here would be). There is no off street parking and the city just removed half of the street parking so if you have a car, good luck finding a spot for it. The building is run down and poorly maintained. You cannot run 2 appliances at the same time in the kitchen or the electricity will short out. There is 1 washer and dryer for the ~15 people that live in the building and the dryer barely works and makes loud clunking sounds, yet the price for laundry keeps going up. (Also sometimes when you run the washer and dryer at the same time, electricity shorts out). There are nails sticking out of the floors and no railings on the stairwells (because they broke and management couldn't be bothered to fix them). The fire extinguishers were all expired or empty. The landlord, of MBJ Development Corporation, is a terrible person and a worse landlord. He will do everything in his power to avoid responding to you let alone correct any issues. When I first moved in, there was no light fixture in one of the rooms, just a lampshade taped up over some wires on the ceiling. I put in a maintenance request to get it fixed... it never got fixed and my maintenance request was erased from their website. Also the shower head was held up by an orange plastic coat hangar nailed into bare boards with metal sticking out everywhere. When I moved out, I was bullied, threatened and harassed by the property manager and 4 maintenance workers---they felt like they needed 5 grown men to intimidate a single female into keeping quiet about their nonsense. Oh and you won't get your deposit back no matter how thoroughly you clean. They have a system in place to make sure of it. They rush you through the move in inspection knowing you won't notice every detail like a hole in a window screen, and when you move out they charge you insane amounts of money for that hole that you didn't cause and that they won't fix, so they can repeat with the next tenant. I tried to show them my pictures that I took of all the broken things in the apartment after the move-in inspection, they wouldn't take them or consider them because it wasn't on the form I signed. If you do have the misfortune of feeling renting from MBJ Development Corporation is your only option, do not let yourself be pressured into moving faster--thoroughly look through everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) to keep yourself from getting screwed.
